Week of 11-16-15

The President’s Corner

November 16, 2015

What a great Rotaract week & weekend.  We had a great meeting with Vivan Senior speaking on resumes at our Thursday membership meeting & we enjoyed our Club Social at Catty Shack Ranch on Saturday night.

Our next event will be our service event on Saturday, November 21st!  Hope to see you then!
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, December 10th since Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday of the month.

Member Spotlight has been missed in the last two Monday Morning Rotaractors but don’t miss this week’s Member Spotlight below!

Have a great week,

– Jen Suharmadji

First Coast Rotaract meets at Hightide Burrtito Co. the 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month. Join us for networking & socializing at 5:30pm, followed by our meeting at 6:15pm. Guests are always welcome at our meetings, service, and social events.
Check out our Calendar, Follow us on Facebook, or Look for our Meet Up events!

Club Social

We had a great time at Catty Shack Ranch!

Save the date for our next social event: Our Annual Holiday Party.  It will be on Saturday, December 12th at 7:00pm at our President-Elect Tony Brazell’s House.  It is members only plus significant others.  So if you are membership-eligible (attend two meetings & a service event) then get your application in so you can attend.

Our Annual Holiday Party is a time for the club to come together and celebrate and be merry.

We will be having a potluck style dinner and Rotaract will be providing the turkey and/or ham.

There is a white elephant gift exchange with a price point of approx. $20.

RSVP to the facebook page.

Community Service

Save the date for Saturday, November 21st for our next service event.  We will be helping FarmShare (a food bank) with one of their community distribution.
Volunteers are expected to arrive at 7:30 a.m. at Pearl Plaza Shopping Center.
5212 N Pearl St, Jacksonville, FL 32208

From there, we will be assigned to help bag produce, milk, tea, meat, bread, and water. FarmShare wants to bag as many of these items as possible.

Please wear closed toed shoes.

The distribution will start at 9:00 a.m. They expect to serve around 400 people that day. Some volunteers will be helping distribute the bags, others will help people load the items to their car, and others will continue to bag the items.

Here is the facebook event or RSVP to jaxrotaract@gmail.com

Lauren Lodato is one of our newest members of Rotaract.  She hails from Rochester, NY and attended the University of Buffalo.  Brrr – that sounds cold & we are happy to have you in Florida and in First Coast Rotaract.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in Speech & Hearing Sciences.  She also has a Master of Science degree in Childhood & Special Education from Canisius College.

Lauren spends her days as an ESE teacher in St. John’s County Schools. When she’s not teaching, she can be found reading, playing the piano, sewing and crafting.  Ask her to make you a crochet-something & she will!  She also likes cooking, baking & exercising.

This isn’t her first time affiliated with Rotary as she was in Interact in high school – or as she refers to it “High School Rotary.”  Lauren also won the ‘Scariest Costume’ at our recent Halloween Party.

Lauren,  we are excited to have you in First Coast Rotaract and look forward to your professional development & growth!
