Week of 8/10/15

The President’s Corner

Guess what!  We are finally in a ‘Rotaract Week’ – I know!  I can’t believe it’s been two weeks since we’ve had a membership meeting.  I can’t wait to see all of you this Thursday, August 13th at High Tide Burrito in San Marco.

Our speaker will be Mary Jury, Director of Development for BASCA, Inc.

BASCA, Inc.  is an organization that helps to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

We also have social & service events planned for this month, see the info below.  Also, we’re also ordering swanky new polos, see how to order them below.

First Coast Rotaract meets at Hightide Burrtito Co. the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. Join us for networking and socializing at 5:30pm, followed by our meeting at 6:15pm. Guests are welcome at our meetings, service, and social events.

To help keep up with all that is going on you can always check out our Calendar, follow us on Facebook, or look for our Meet Up events.

Save the date for Thursday, October 22nd when our membership meeting will be held at Cathedral Arts Project‘s new offices at 207 N. Laura Street.  More details will follow but you won’t want to miss this special meeting!

Membership Mixer, invite guests!

We are having an informal mixer on Thursday, August 20th at Black Finn.  This is where young professionals in our community can come out to meet us awesome First Coast Rotaractors in a casual setting.  So invite all your friends & co-workers that you think would be a great Rotaractor.  Guests that have come to a few meetings or maybe you haven’t been to a meeting in awhile – come on out!  This is a great chance to get to know other Rotaractors one-on-one & feel free to bring a friend!  RSVP to the facebook invite!

Community Service

This month our awesome community service chair, Quang Ly, had us scheduled to volunteer in August at the Special Olympics Bowling Tournament.   However, it is already full since most of us neglected to sign up for the event officially through the organization.  But no worries, we have scheduled another service event!

SUNDAY, AUGUST 16th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm  we will volunteer with the St. John’s Riverkeeper helping to clean up McCoy’s Creek.  See the facebook page to RSVP your attendance.  No need to sign up on through any other means.  We can’t wait to see you there & of course our guests are always welcome at our service events.

Social

Save the Date for Friday, August 14th for our next club social event. Love to sing? Afraid of what strangers will think? Good. Jacksonville has their very only private karaoke room bar so you can sing in front of all your new rotaractor friends. Song lists are updated every month. Cost is $5 per hour per person.  We will sing our hearts out at Austin Karaoke.  RSVP to the facebook event.

Who’s that Rotaractor…
in that swanky new Polo??

We are ordering polos! They are Nike, dri-fit in the color will be BLACK.   We are getting our logo on the front.  The First Coast will be in white.  The ‘service above self’ will be larger than what is shown. I’m still waiting to hear from the embroiderer, but the Rotaract Club may have to be the traditional logo and not on the red box.

Polos are $30.  To give us your shirt size please use the google form  – if you are having issues with it please email jaxrotaract@gmail.com.

We need your order by Monday, August 10th to receive your shirt by the August 19th for the Meet & Greet!

You can pay for your polo with your dues (for a total of $130).  Payment will be accepted at either August meeting.  If you would like a polo but need to set up a payment plan for dues – that is fine, please set this up with Patrick. If you are unable to order a polo now, there will be other opportunities to order a polo.

Club Dues

Dues are due for the 2015-2016 Rotaract year.  Dues are $100.  Dues go to our club’s special events our two members only events, the Holiday Party and Hail & Farewell, as well as other endeavors to keep our club running.  You can bring a check, cash or a credit card to Thursday’s meeting.  Checks can be made to First Coast Rotaract and we will have the pay pal swipe at the next meeting too.  If you would like to pay your dues in installments, please see our treasurer, Patrick Horvath to set up a plan.

Rotary District Training Seminar

The Rotary District Training Seminar for District 6970 will be this Saturday, August 15th at the Thrasher-Horne Conference Center at St. John’s Community College in Orange Park from 9:00am – 2:00pm.  It’s mostly for Rotarians but they are wanting Rotaractors to help set up the District Rotaract website & also tell Rotarians what Rotaract is all about. If you would like to attend or would like more information please email jaxrotaract@gmail.com
